France’s Ligue 1 operates an official game called Fantasy L1, allowing supporters to build teams with players from Paris Saint-Germain, Marseille, Monaco and every other Ligue 1 club.
The game is easy to enter but follows a very different structure from Fantasy Premier League. Instead of managing one squad for an entire season, Fantasy L1 asks managers to build a new team for each gameweek.
1. What Is Fantasy L1?
Fantasy L1 is the fantasy game available through Ligue 1’s official website. Managers select real players and receive scores based on their performances in Ligue 1 McDonald’s matches.
Every gameweek is a new contest. Managers compete against the wider community, supporters of their chosen club and friends, while a consolidated table tracks the season.

2. Do You Keep the Same Team All Season?
No. A fresh Fantasy L1 contest opens for every Ligue 1 gameweek, and all squads reset once the round is complete. Managers must then build another team using the latest prices.
This removes the long-term transfer planning found in FPL. An injury or poor purchase does not damage a squad for several weeks because there is no permanent squad to protect. Equally, buying a bargain before his value rises does not secure that price for future rounds.
3. How Do You Build a Fantasy L1 Team?
Managers receive a budget of €200m and may select up to 15 players. The squad consists of 11 starters and no more than one substitute in each position: goalkeeper, defender, midfielder and forward.
A maximum of three players may be selected from one club, encouraging managers to search across the league.
The deadline is one minute before the first match begins. Player values are adjusted automatically after each gameweek according to supply and demand within the game. A popular player can therefore become more expensive for the following round.
4. How Does Fantasy L1 Scoring Work?
Fantasy L1 does not simply copy the familiar FPL system of fixed points for goals, assists and clean sheets. Each player receives a rating out of 10 based on his real performance and the game’s proprietary algorithm.
Goals, assists and other match events feed into that rating, but the manager ultimately receives the published score rather than a list of separate FPL-style returns. A player who does not appear scores zero.
The captain receives a five per cent increase to his score. That is a much smaller multiplier than the double points awarded to captains in FPL or Champions League Fantasy, making the choice useful without allowing it to dominate an entire gameweek.
5. How Do Substitutes Work?
If a starter does not play, an available substitute in the same position can replace him automatically, provided that the substitute appeared in his own match. If there is no suitable replacement, the empty position scores zero.
Managers should therefore use the four possible bench positions carefully. The game displays injury, suspension and uncertainty indicators, although its rules warn that this information may not reflect every late team update.
If a manager forgets to submit a new team, Fantasy L1 can restore the previous saved lineup. However, that automatic team has no captain, no substitutes and receives a 10 per cent penalty to its final score.
6. Can You Play Fantasy L1 in English?
Yes. The official Ligue 1 website offers both French and English versions, including an English-language Fantasy L1 rules page.
Registration is required before a manager can save a team and enter the rankings.
7. Fantasy L1 vs FPL: What Is the Difference?
FPL rewards long-term management. Transfers, chips, price changes and fixture planning all affect a squad that remains active throughout the Premier League season.
Fantasy L1 concentrates almost everything into the immediate gameweek. Managers can target the best fixtures without worrying about the following round, then begin again with a clean slate.
It also differs from LALIGA Fantasy, where the transfer market is a major part of the experience, and Bundesliga Fantasy Manager, which maintains a season-long squad and selects an automatic Top 11.
8. Is Fantasy L1 Worth Playing?
Fantasy L1 is particularly suitable for casual managers and Ligue 1 followers who prefer short contests. A disappointing weekend does not require a Wildcard or several transfers; the next round begins with another €200m budget.
The weekly reset may be less attractive to players who enjoy building team value and planning months ahead. However, it also makes the game flexible, accessible and easy to rejoin after missing a round.
