1. Denzel Dumfries

Dumfries became the latest player to complete the Inter–Real Madrid connection when the Spanish club activated his reported €20 million release clause in July 2026.
The Netherlands international left Inter after five successful seasons. His direct running and strength in the air made him an ideal wing-back, while his attacking production was closer to that of a winger than a conventional defender. He recorded 27 goals and 28 assists in 207 appearances and helped Inter win eight trophies, including two Serie A titles.

Real Madrid confirmed that Dumfries had signed a contract until June 2030 in the club’s official announcement.
His role in Madrid may differ from the one he performed in Milan. Dumfries was most comfortable operating as a wing-back for Inter, whereas Real can use him as a traditional right-back or push him forward in a back-five system. His athleticism also provides a contrasting option to Trent Alexander-Arnold.
2. Ronaldo Nazário
Inter Milan: 1997–2002 (Apps: 99 | Goals: 59)
Real Madrid: 2002–2007 (Apps: 177 | Goals: 104)
Ronaldo Nazário joined Inter from Barcelona in 1997 and immediately demonstrated why he was regarded as the most frightening forward in world football.
He scored 34 goals during his first season and helped Inter win the 1997/98 UEFA Cup. His acceleration, balance and ability to round goalkeepers made him almost impossible to defend against when fully fit.
Unfortunately, serious knee injuries interrupted the remainder of his Inter career. Ronaldo missed almost the entire 2000/01 season before returning in time to lead Brazil to victory at the 2002 World Cup.
Real Madrid signed him shortly after the tournament. He scored twice on his debut and finished his first campaign with 30 goals in all competitions, including one in the Intercontinental Cup final.
Although Madrid did not win the Champions League during his spell, Ronaldo registered 104 goals for the club and remains one of the defining members of the Galácticos era.
3. Luís Figo

Figo’s controversial move from Barcelona to Real Madrid in 2000 made him the central figure in Florentino Pérez’s first Galácticos project.
The Portuguese winger won the Ballon d’Or later that year and helped Real claim two La Liga titles and the 2001/02 Champions League. He was no longer at his physical peak by the end of his Madrid career, but his delivery, close control and decision-making remained elite.
Figo joined Inter on a free transfer in 2005. His role gradually became less prominent, particularly after José Mourinho’s appointment, but he still contributed to four consecutive Serie A-winning campaigns.
Unlike Ronaldo, Roberto Carlos and Seedorf, Figo did not move directly between the clubs as part of a transfer fee. Madrid allowed his contract to expire, enabling Inter to add an experienced winner without paying for the deal.
4. Roberto Carlos

Roberto Carlos spent only one season at Inter, but it was enough to demonstrate his attacking ability. He scored seven times in 34 appearances, including a memorable goal on his Serie A debut against Vicenza.
The Brazilian later suggested that his role under Roy Hodgson did not suit him. Inter sometimes used him further forward, while Roberto Carlos believed his future belonged at left-back.
Real Madrid moved quickly when he became available in 1996. The decision transformed both the player’s career and the direction of the Spanish club.
Over the following 11 seasons, Roberto Carlos made 527 official appearances, won four La Liga titles and lifted the Champions League three times. His pace allowed him to cover the entire left flank, while his powerful free kicks turned him into a regular goalscoring threat.

5. Clarence Seedorf

Seedorf arrived at Real Madrid in 1996 after helping Ajax win the Champions League and spending one season with Sampdoria.
He immediately became an important member of Madrid’s midfield and helped the club win its first European Cup in 32 years in 1998. Seedorf was powerful, technically gifted and capable of scoring from considerable distance.
His relationship with the club deteriorated during the 1999/2000 season, and he joined Inter in January 2000. There were flashes of his quality at San Siro, most famously when he scored two spectacular long-range goals against Juventus.
However, Inter never found the best role for him. Seedorf crossed the city in 2002 as part of the deal that sent Francesco Coco in the opposite direction. He subsequently became an AC Milan legend, making his Inter period look like the least settled chapter of an extraordinary career.
6. Esteban Cambiasso

Cambiasso joined Real Madrid’s youth system from Argentina as a teenager but returned home before establishing himself in the senior side. He later came back to Madrid in 2002 after successful spells with Independiente and River Plate.
The midfielder won La Liga, the UEFA Super Cup and the Intercontinental Cup, but competition for places prevented him from becoming indispensable.
Inter signed Cambiasso on a free transfer in 2004. It proved to be one of the club’s best pieces of business of the modern era.
He developed into a tactical leader, combining intelligent positioning with late runs into the penalty area. Cambiasso made more than 400 appearances for Inter and won five Serie A titles.
His defining season came in 2009/10, when he anchored José Mourinho’s midfield as Inter completed the Serie A, Coppa Italia and Champions League treble.
7. Wesley Sneijder

Sneijder started brightly after arriving at Real Madrid from Ajax in 2007. He scored several important goals during his debut campaign and helped Madrid win La Liga.
A change in the club’s transfer policy worked against him. Following the return of Florentino Pérez and the arrivals of Cristiano Ronaldo, Kaká and Xabi Alonso, Sneijder was sold to Inter in August 2009.
The timing could hardly have been better for the Italian club. José Mourinho positioned Sneijder behind the forwards, giving him the freedom to connect midfield with Diego Milito and Samuel Eto’o.
The Dutchman became one of the most influential players in Inter’s treble-winning season, scoring important Champions League goals against Dynamo Kyiv, CSKA Moscow and Barcelona. His performances for Inter and the Netherlands made him a serious Ballon d’Or contender in 2010.
Madrid received a talented player from Ajax, but Inter inherited the version who reached his career peak.
8. Iván Zamorano

Zamorano remains one of the few players on this list who became a genuine fan favourite at both clubs.
The Chilean scored 101 times in 173 matches for Real Madrid. His finest campaign came in 1994/95, when he won the Pichichi Trophy with 28 league goals and helped Madrid reclaim the Spanish title.
His most memorable performance arrived in a 5-0 victory over Barcelona. Zamorano scored a hat-trick and contributed directly to the other two goals.
He moved to Inter in 1996 and initially wore the number nine shirt. After Ronaldo arrived and took the number, Zamorano selected 18 and placed a plus sign between the two digits, creating his famous “1+8” shirt.
Zamorano never matched his Madrid scoring rate in Italy, but his work ethic won over the Inter supporters. He also scored the opening goal when Inter defeated Lazio in the 1998 UEFA Cup final.
9. Fabio Cannavaro

10. Achraf Hakimi

Inter signed him permanently in 2020. Antonio Conte’s wing-back system allowed Hakimi to attack space rather than remain in a conservative defensive position. He responded with seven goals and ten assists as Inter won their first Serie A title in 11 years.
Financial pressure led Inter to sell him to Paris Saint-Germain after only one season. Like Cambiasso, Sneijder and Seedorf, Hakimi found a clearer tactical role after leaving Madrid.

Which Player Was Most Successful at Both Clubs?
Luís Figo has the strongest claim because he won multiple league titles at both clubs and remained an important first-team player into his Inter years.
Ronaldo reached greater individual heights, although injuries restricted his time at Inter and he did not win the Champions League with Madrid. Roberto Carlos became an undisputed Real Madrid legend but spent only one season in Italy.
Cambiasso, Sneijder, Samuel and Eto’o enjoyed their greatest club achievement at Inter, while Cannavaro and Zamorano collected more significant individual recognition in Madrid.
